Dr M's two sons can re-apply for further extension but subject to review, says Azam Baki

KUALA LUMPUR: The two sons of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad may re-apply for another extension to declare their assets, says Tan Sri Azam Baki.

He however added that any application will be subject to review, and confirmed that a one-month extension was also given to Tan Sri Mokhzani.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief then said that it was reasonable to grant a one-month extension due to the extensive nature of his assets.

"Yes, he applied for an extension and we approved a 30-day extension. He needs to gather the relevant documents for the details,” said Azam.

"They can apply (for another extension) but we will review it first," he added when speaking to the media after attending the 10th Certified Integrity Officer Programme Convocation Ceremony at Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC) Thursday (Feb 22).

Azam was asked if both sons of Dr Mahathir can still re-apply for an extension after the one-month deadline is over.

The two sons of the country's longest-serving prime minister are currently being probed by the MACC and have been asked to declare their assets.

On Feb 21, MACC had reported to have granted Tan Sri Mokhzani's older brother, Tan Sri Mirzan Mahathir, the same extension four days ago.

The graft-busters reportedly served a notice to Mirzan under Section 36 (1)(b) of the MACC Act to declare all his movable and immovable assets, whether inside or outside of the country within 30 days of Jan 18.

Mokhzani is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

According to the duo, the MACC has requested a list of assets going back to 1981, the year their father became the prime minister for the first time.
